Sightseeing recommendations

See the following recommendations on what to do in Seoul and how to get around the city.

Apps to download

  • Google Maps is not very effective in Korea. We recommend Naver Map.

  • Uber works in Korea, but it’s also useful to download Kakao T as a backup.

  • Catchtable is the Resy of Korea. Use it to search trending restaurants and make reservations.

Food

The food scene is ever changing in Seoul, so the best way to find good places is through Catchtable. But below are some of our favorites:

  • On6.5 — fusion Korean food wine bar with various types of kimchi as the main ingredient for everything (reservation through Catchtable)

  • Myeongdong Gyoja — historic and iconic dumpling restaurant (walk-in only)

  • Gebang Sikdang — marinated raw crab restaurant (reservation through Catchtable)

  • Geumdwaeji Sikdang — pork KBBQ restaurant (walk-in only, has a long wait)

  • Samwon Garden — beef KBBQ restaurant (reservation through Catchtable)

Entertainment

  • Bukchon Hanok Village — historic preserved village in the heart of Seoul with traditional Korean houses called hanok

  • Gyeonbokgung — the king’s palace in the Joseon Dynasty, rent a hanbok!

  • Dongdaemun Design Plaza — cool architecture and interesting art exhibits

  • Coex — underground shopping mall with iconic open concept library

  • Seoul Forest — the central park of Seoul

  • Seongsu-dong — previously known for old factories and shoe workshops, it’s now a trendy street filled with hip cafes and stylish clothing brands

  • N Seoul Tower — observation tower to see the Seoul skyline

  • DMZ tour — day trip to one of the very few DMZs in the world

  • Jjimjilbang — Korean sauna/public baths for a relaxing spa day
